Prof. Koleka Mlisana is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Laboratory Service (NHLS), South Africa’s largest diagnostic pathology service. A distinguished microbiologist and infectious diseases specialist, she has led transformative initiatives in laboratory systems strengthening across the continent. Her leadership during COVID-19 was instrumental in scaling South Africa’s testing capacity to meet pandemic demands.
Prof. Christian Happi is the Director of the African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) at Redeemer’s University, Nigeria. A world-renowned genomics researcher, he led the team that sequenced the first SARS-CoV-2 genome in Africa. His pioneering work in pathogen genomics has positioned Africa at the forefront of infectious disease surveillance and response.
